Britain's Best Walks with Julia Bradbury - Pen-y-ghent - wheelchair accessible route

The recent airing of Julia Bradbury's Britain's Best Walks (aired on Friday 13th January 2017, ITV) took us on the ascent of Pen-y-ghent, Julia's favourite fell walk, (the route can be found here). The programme was also helping to promote 'Access the Dales' - now known as 'accessTOG' (The Outdoor Guide). The 6.5 mile route showed dramatic and far reaching views above the magnificent Dales.

As part of the episode Julia Bradbury interviewed outdoor enthusiast, Jack Morgan, who following a cliff top fall in 2008 was left paralysed from the chest down, but this didn't stop Jack from continuing with his determination to enjoy the great outdoors. Jack was a member of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority access for all advisory group and represented the charity, Experience Community, which helps people with disabilities access the countryside.

To assist Jack with his outdoor pursuits Jack purchased a Mountain Trike - an all terrain self propelled wheelchair which can travel over any terrain. Jack was an inspirational champion for others with mobility issues, and in April last year, he climbed Pen-y-ghent in his self-propelled Mountain Trike wheelchair and raised £2,500 for the Cave Rescue Organisation.

Following a short illness, very sadly, Jack Morgan passed away the week before the television program was aired.

A tribute has been made to Jack by local newspaper The Craven Herald and can be read here.

Jack's family have also set up a donations pages to raise funds for some of the charities that he was close to and donations can be made here.

Our thoughts are with Jack's family at this very sad time.
