Accessible & Inclusive Places General News
Wakehurst, Kew's wild botanic garden in Sussex, is a stunningly beautiful place to visit and explore the 500 acres of ornamental gardens, woodlands and nature reserve.
Wakehurst has been managed by Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew under a long-term lease agreement since 1965, it is home to the world's largest seed conservation project.
There is plenty to do and see at Wakehurst - a stunning walled garden, water gardens and meadowland are just a small part of what you can experience. Children will love the natural play spaces and nature lovers will delight in spotting unusual flora, fungi and wildlife in the reserve.
Wakehurst wants everyone to have an enjoyable time when visiting and they aim to provide the best possible access for all. They already provide a few wheelchairs and mobility scooters for visitors to borrow, however as they continue to try and improve access they are exploring options for better equipment to help with the visitors experience. As part of this we are delighted to be loaning Wakehurst our MT Push - all terrain attendant wheelchair.
The MT Push wheelchair provides inclusive access as it has the ability to push over a wide variety of terrains. It is lightweight and easy to use - the braking and steering takes place by the riders buddy by using the push handle located behind the rider. Air suspension offers a smooth and comfortable ride while the hydraulic brakes gives excellent propulsion, control and braking.
The MT Push will be available for visitors to borrow at Wakehurst from Tuesday 23rd April until Monday 20th May 2019.
For more information and to plan your day please visit the Wakehurst website, which also provides detail of opening times, prices and how to get there.
Further information is also available on the Kew, website, here.
With so much to do and see at Wakehurst, why not plan a trip in the next month and take advantage of visiting while the MT Push is available to borrow - and now is the perfect time of year to see the gardens springing to life!
